Recently
there have been many changes suggested in vaccination requirements
and you should discuss them with your veteriarian before
boarding.
Currently
the AVMA is studying what type, and how often, which vaccinations
are required. If your veterinarian suggests a differing
schedule from that below we will be happy to consult with
him/her and find out what they think is right for your pet.
Please remember that most local veterinarians use what are
termed "multi-valent" vaccines. This means that
your "old" routine distemper vaccination could
also have contained a vaccine for Parvo Virus, Corona, Leptospirosis,
and Para-Influnza.
We
are very concerned that these "other" possible
illnesses be covered if your veterinarian changes his vaccination
routines.
We
are especially concerned with Parvo Virus and Corona. These
are life threatening illnesses which we MUST have covered
before your pet enters our facilities.
Many
veterinarians vaccinate for the "home bound" pet,
or a pet who might be exposed to a limited number of other
pets. Please consult with you veterinarian regarding you
pet's vaccinations and MAKE SURE to let him know that you
will be boarding your pet.
Here
is our recommended schedule of Vaccinations:
All
animals must have a current history of vaccinations which
include:
- Distemper
-Parvo-virus(vaccination given within the last one
(1) year), or at the length of time recommended by your
veterinarian. Please check with you veterinarian.
-
Rabies vaccination given within the last one (1)
year on dogs under one (1) year of age and in all cats
(except where three (3) year feline vaccinations are given),
and within the last three (3) years for dogs over one
(1) year of age, and
- THE
SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT VACCINATION FOR DOGS WHEN BOARDING
IS THE CANINE COUGH (BORDETELLA) VACCINATION! WE
EMPHATICALLY REQUIRE BORDETELLA INTRA-NASAL DROPS OR VACCINATION
PRIOR TO ENTRY FOR ALL DOGS. THIS VACCINATION IS REQUIRED
ON AN ANNUAL (1 YEAR) OR SEMIANNUAL(TWICE YEARLY) BASIS
DEPENDING ON YOUR VETERINARIAN'S VACCINATION TYPE.
PLEASE CALL YOUR VETERINARIAN'S RECEPTIONIST FOR SHOT EXPIRATION
DATES. After obtaining the dates on which the above vaccinations
expire, call or fax them to our offices and we will update
your pet's files to reflect the most current vaccination
dates. Should you find that your pet's vaccinations are
overdue please arrange for the proper shots (drops) to be
given preferably five (5) days prior to it's stay with us.
