Reservation Cancellation Policy

We are more than happy to accommocate your reservation request.  Please remember that we are holding your reservation request pending your pet's arrival.  Many times customers forget that our facilities are limited and that we become full.  When we reach our total occupancy capacity we have to refuse reservation requests and turn business away.  If you do not cancel your reservations in a timely manner (at least 5 days in advance) we are unable, in most instances, to re-book the space we have held for you.  This forces us to lose revenue.  Beginning in July 1999, due to an unmanageable increase in "No Shows" and late cancellations, we have been forced to implement the following policy:

SUMMER - "HOLLIDAY" CANCELLATION POLICY
(MEMORIAL DAY THROUGH LABOR DAY )
All Reservations Require A $25.00 Nonrefundable Deposit

If you cancel your reservation you forfeit your $25.00 Deposit!!14 Days Cancellation or Change Notice --All Reservations Must Be Guaranteed By A Credit Card Deposit. If You Cancel or Change Within The 14 Day Period From The Date You Reserved And We Are Unable To Fill The Space You Abandoned By The Cancellation, Then You Will Be Charged For All Your Un-filled Days of the Reservation As Booked. If you cancel within 48 hours of your arrival date you will Be Charged For YOUR ENTIRE BOOKED RESERVATION As A Cancellation/Change Fee Per Pet.

OFF SEASON CANCELLATION POLICY
(LABOR DAY UNTIL MEMORIAL DAY )
5 Days Cancellation or Change Notice --All Reservations Must Be Guaranteed By Credit Card. If You Cancel or Change Within The 5 Day Period From The Date You Reserved And We Are Unable To Fill The Space You Abandoned Then You Are Subject To A $25.00 Cancellation/Change Fee Per Pet
"MAJOR" HOLIDAY CANCELLATION POLICY
(USUALLY THANKSGIVING, XMAS, & NEW YEARS BUT CALL FOR DATES)

Early Return Policy Important Notice Please Read:

We are experiencing growing difficulty with customers returning "earlier than planned" to pick up their pets. We are more than happy to have you return home to retrieve your pet early and we are glad that you are able to do so, however, you MUST let us know at least two days in advance of your change in plans.

Early returns create a problem for us when you do not let us know in advance that you are going to return earlier than what you had scheduled at your check-in time. If a bath or grooming is scheduled, we plan to perform those services on the day of departure - so you need to let us know the change of departure time or date so we may change the grooming date (or time) and have your pet`s grooming (bath) done earlier.

Also, when we are full, (which is quite often during the summer months), we turn away additional business in order to provide space for your pet for the entire time you have reserved. This means, therefore, that if you return early, and we have turned other customers away, (because we are full and expect you to return on certain date), we are unable to provide services to other clients as we have for you. This forces us to have vacant runs and lose revenue. Please try to help us, and indirectly help you, by just giving us a call in advance if you are going to return early. Unfortunately, if we do not get at least two (2) days notice we are unable to reschedule your reseved space and therefore you will be charged for the complete number of booked days.

Thank you for your help and understanding. The Staff and Management of Wakefield Kennel.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS

All animals must have a current history of vaccinations which include:

  • Distemper (vaccination given within the last one (1) year),and
  • Parvo-virus (vaccination given within the last one (1) year, and
  • Rabies vaccination given within the last one (1) year on dogs under one (1) year of age and in all cats (except where three (3) year feline vaccinations are given), and within the last three (3) years for dogs over one (1) year of age, and
  • THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT VACCINATION FOR DOGS WHEN BOARDING IS THE CANINE COUGH (BORDETELLA) VACCINATION! WE EMPHATICALLY REQUIRE BORDETELLA INTRA-NASAL DROPS OR VACCINATION PRIOR TO ENTRY FOR ALL DOGS. THIS VACCINATION IS REQUIRED ON AN ANNUAL (1 YEAR) OR SEMI-ANNUAL(TWICE YEARLY) BASIS DEPENDING ON YOUR VETERINARIAN'S VACCINATION TYPE.
  • Wakefield Kennel reccommends and prefers "intra nasal" bordetella vaccinations. We have found over the many years of our requirement for this vaccine that "injectable" vaccinations (while much easier to administer) are far less effective. Our attending veterinarian has advised us to use either Intratrac II by Schering Plough or Naramune by Boehringer Ingelheim. Bordetella vaccine, in combination with parainfluenza virus vaccine (Intratrac II, Naramune) is available for use in animals that will be in high risk environments (dogs to be kenneled, show dogs, breeding dogs, etc.) and should be given semi-annually via the intranasal route. The intranasal route is the most effective means of preventing kennel cough because it also stimulates mucosal immunity (Appel 1997). If you would like to read more regarding this please visit:
http://www.cvm.uiuc.edu/petcolumns. Thank you for your efforts to use this type of vaccination.

PLEASE CALL YOUR VETERINARIAN'S RECEPTIONIST FOR SHOT EXPIRATION DATES. After obtaining the dates on which the above vaccinations expire, call our offices and we will update your pet's files to reflect the most current vaccination dates. Should you find that your pet's vaccinations are overdue please arrange for the proper shots (drops) to be given preferably five (5) days prior to it's stay with us.

LOST & DAMAGED ITEMS POLICY

WE NO LONGER ACCEPT OUTSIDE BEDDING PLEASE SEE OUR HANDOUT REGARDING BEDDING. THANK YOU !! Although we will continue to accept items from home (such as 1 toy, etc.) to accompany your pet during his visit with us, we cannot accept responsibility for such items should they be lost or destroyed. While we do everything in our power to keep these articles safe, clean, and with your pet for their intended use, WE WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ITEM(S) WHICH BECOME LOST OR DESTROYED!! If you have any questions concerning this policy, please, read our bedding policy page and feel free to discuss this with an attendant. Thank you for your cooperation.

DESTRUCTIVE ANIMAL POLICY

We here at the kennel have it as our policy to provide your pet with the finest quality care as is possible. This continuing policy of special care and attention is reflected not only by our staff, but by our facility and its' furnishings as well. While providing the best possible boarding accommodations for your pet at reasonable rates, we cannot absorb the cost or responsibility for damage done to your pet or our kennel as a result of his or her destructive act(s). Although such acts are rare, IT WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OWNER OF THE PET FOR ANY AND ALL DAMAGE, ESCAPE, OR LOSS DONE TO THE KENNEL OR THEIR PET THROUGH ITS' ACTS. WE DO OFFER FLEECE PET BEDS FOR RENTAL, AND WE HIGHLY SUGGEST THAT YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR "NO FAULT" BED RENTAL POLICY. We have found that the majority of destructive acts result from incidents surrounding bedding. Bedding is often subjected to the rough treatment (chewing, tossing, ripping, etc.) of the active boarder. While these beds are not overly expensive, they do represent a significant investment on our part. You may rent the bedding at a "Non-Guaranteed" cost, or you may rent the bedding at a "No Fault" cost. If you choose to elect the non-guaranteed option you will be responsible for any and all damage which might result to the bedding. Should you elect the "No Fault" option any and all damage will be absorbed by the management. Should you have any questions regarding these options please feel free to discuss them with an attendant BEFORE ADMITTING YOUR PET. Thank you for your understanding concerning this policy.
